Random Thoughts

All Politicians are not the same. Some are better crooks than others. Some know how to gain real power and some never get it. Some are well-meaning and others are just plain mean.

Civility

according to John Adams:

"…Virtue and Simplicity of Manners are indispensably necessary in a Republic among all orders and Degrees of Men. But there is so much Rascallity, so much Venality and Corruption, so much Avarice and Ambition such a Rage for Profit and Commerce among all Ranks and Degrees of Men even in America, that I sometimes doubt whether there is public Virtue enough to Support a Republic."

Catch of the Day

A bluefin tuna fetched a record 32.49m yen (£254,000)($377,850.54) today at the first auction of the year at Tsukiji market in Tokyo, but the fish's growing popularity across Asia has raised fears it will soon be fished into commercial extinction.

Psychology of quirks

A study funded by the US government has concluded that conservatism can be explained psychologically as a set of neuroses rooted in "fear and aggression, dogmatism and the intolerance of ambiguity".

A classic procrastinator is unsure that he could accomplish the tasks before him. And he is given to excessive planning, as if only the perfect strategy was worth doing. Lack of confidence, sometimes alternating with unrealistic dreams of heroic success, often leads to procrastination; rather than risk failure, procrastinators create conditions that make success impossible."
